Hello again!
It has been a long time I was thinking about writing this post (well, since Tuesday actually), but like I said and said again, I have been ill and could not saw the computer anymore. So I’m only doing it now, sorry. :-)
The Plain White T’s (my favorite band ever, I already told you about them here and if you follow me on Twitter, you probably noticed I am desperately trying to get a tweet from them. [EDIT : I got it!] If you want to know, this is the only reason why I did sign up on Twitter, but « ridicule never killed anyone » and, yeah, I’m going to try it again, and even take advantage of this post, why not?)… released an EP last Tuesday.
An EP (I did not know what an EP was before I knew the Plain White T’s either, since they already released some EP’s and I needed to buy them), is a CD during between 10 and 30 minutes. Should've Gone to Bed includes four songs. It may seem very little when we think that the last album of the band was released 3 years ago, but I read in an interview that the next album was going to be released in late summer and that those songs were going to be included in it. (I hope there will be an international tour after that! :-))
Only rub, we can not buy the EP if we don’t live in the USA (isn’t it a good reason to move?) but it doesn’t matter to me as long as the songs are effectively included in the next album.
I must say I was a little bit sceptic after the first listening of Should've Gone to Bed (not the whole EP but the song). I read the lyrics a few days before and I liked them, I loved the intro, but the rest of the track reminded me a band I hate (and I’m not going to tell its name because I’d like to keep my head)… I listened to it again, and again and again, etc. and I finally really like it. The song definitely gets stuck in one’s head all day and is less « goofy » (the word is a bit much) than it seems at the first listening.
I was surprised about The Giving Tree because : 1) Tim Lopez has the lead vocals (Tom Higgenson always sings, except for Rhythm of Love and Body Parts on their last record) / 2) This second track is really different from the first one. I instantly loved it for its melancholic atmosphere. It's my second favourite song of the EP.
Helium is my favourite because I’m in love with this part :

The last song is Haven't Told Her, sung by Tim. I love the chorus and the vocal harmony. It was the song I liked the less (even if I liked it) but I like it more and more now.
(Note to myself : stop to repeat : « really », « love » and « like ».

The thing I like the most about the T’s, is that every album has its particular atmosphere. And in Should’ve Gone To Bed, it’s every song who has its own atmosphere! Moreover, they write their lyrics themselves. I am happy Tim wrote and sung two songs on this EP, even if I love both Tom and Tim voices. Every member of the band takes part in the chord and I like the care given to the vocal harmony.
I hope I’ve made you want to listen to Should’ve Gone To Bed. I certainly will write another post about the full album when the time comes. And if you want a full post about the band, I’d be happy to do it! (I’m just afraid that I’d take 2 years for writing it and that I’d found myself with a 300 pages book…)

Voilà un moment que cet article me trotte dans la tête (ok, depuis mardi en fait), mais comme je l'ai déjà dit et redit j'ai été malade donc je boudais l'ordi et je ne m'y mets que maintenant. :-)
Les Plain White T's, mon groupe préféré de chez préféré (je vous en ai déjà parlé ici et si vous me suivez sur Twitter vous avez dû remarquer que j'essayais désespérement d'obtenir un tweet de leur part, si vous voulez savoir, c'est pour ça que je me suis inscrite, et non le ridicule ne tue pas, et oui je compte continuer, voire pourquoi pas mettre cet article à profit (^-^)) a sorti un EP mardi dernier. Un EP (je ne savais pas non plus ce que c'était avant de connaître les Plain White T's, étant donné qu'ils en ont sorti quelques uns et qu'il a fallu que je les achète), c'est un CD durant entre 10 et 30 minutes. Should've Gone to Bed comporte 4 chansons, et ça paraît peu quand on pense que le dernier album du groupe date d'il y a trois ans, mais j'ai entendu dans une interview qu'il s'agissait de chansons qui seraient inclues dans le prochain album qui sortirait à la fin de l'été. (Et normalement après il y aura une tournée mondiale. :-)). Bon, le hic, c'est qu'on ne sait pas acheter l'EP si on n'habite pas aux USA (ça peut être une excuse pour déménager), mais si les chansons sont inclues dans l'album ça ne me pose pas de souci étant donné qu'on peut les écouter gratuitement ici (et c'est légal vu qu'il n'y a pas de téléchargement et que c'est le groupe lui-même qui a donné le lien).
Je dois dire qu'à ma première écoute de Should've Gone to Bed (la chanson, pas l'EP en entier), j'étais un peu sceptique. J'avais lu les paroles quelques jours avant et je les aimais bien, et j'adorais l'intro, mais le reste me rappelait un groupe que je déteste (et dont je citerai pas le nom car je tiens à ma tête)... Mais je l'ai réécoutée une fois, deux fois, trois fois, quatre fois... (oui ,bon, je crois que vous avez pigé le truc) et j'ai fini par l'aimer vraiment, vraiment. Elle reste en tête et la musique est moins lisse qu'elle n'y paraît au premier abord.
Pour ce qui est de The Giving Tree j'ai été surprise parce que 1) C'est Tim qui chante (le reste du temps c'est Tom, sauf sur Rhythm of Love et Body Parts, de leur dernier album) / 2) La chanson est très différente de la première. Je l'ai tout de suite adorée pour son ambiance mélancolique.
La troisième, Helium, est ma préférée. J'adore ce passage :

Mais quand je dis que je l'adore, je l'adore ! ♥
La dernière, Haven't Told Her, est de nouveau chantée par Tim. J'aime beaucoup le refrain et les harmonies vocales, peut-être que c'est celle qui me reste le moins en tête par rapport aux précédentes mais je l'aime beaucoup quand même. :-)
(Arrête de dire "vraiment", "aimer" et "beaucoup".)

Ce que j'adore chez les Plain White T's c'est que chaque album a une atmosphère très différente et ici, c'est valable même pour les chansons entre elles. En plus, ils écrivent eux-mêmes leurs paroles. Je suis contente que Tim ait écrit et chanté deux chansons de l'EP, même si j'adore la voix de Tom aussi, en fait, je n'aime pas les grosses voix, je préfères les voix plus atypiques et j'aime bien leurs voix à tous les deux. Mais tous les membres du groupe chantent et font les choeurs, et j'aime beaucoup le soin apporté aux harmonies vocales.
J'espère vous avoir donné envie d'écouter ces chansons (ça ne vous engage à rien vu que c'est gratuit :)) et, avec un peu de chance, vous avoir donné envie d'acheter l'album. (^-^) J'en reparlerai sûrement à ce moment-là ! Si un article "complet" sur le groupe vous intéresse, je peux en faire un, ce serait même avec plaisir (j'ai juste un peu peur que ça me prenne deux ans pour l'écrire et que je me retrouve avec un livre de 300 pages).
